Kong2Michele Kong, M.D.Michele Kong, M.D., has joined the board of directors for Callahan Eye Hospital. Kong serves as an associate professor with the University of Alabama at Birmingham Division of Pediatric Critical Care.

She was recently awarded the 2019 Woman of Impact Award, which recognizes the honoree’s personal and professional contributions to the state of Alabama that have moved the needle across business, government and nonprofit sectors. At UAB, her contributions and service to the community were recognized with the UAB Dean’s Excellence Award in Service, UAB Outstanding Woman in the Community Award and the Odessa Woolfolk Community Service Award.

Kong is also the co-founder of a notable, international organization: KultureCity, a nonprofit that is focused on inclusion and accessibility for individuals with invisible challenges, such as children with autism or veterans with PTSD, just to name a few.

“Inclusion is fundamental and should be for everyone, across all ages and demographics, and in all settings regardless of their challenges or needs,” Kong said. “Often individuals with vision impairment or blindness can be overlooked, and resources are not available to allow them to be fully integrated within the community. I am honored to join the board directors for UAB Callahan Eye Hospital & Clinics and believe that, together, we can make a difference for this population.”
