UAB hosts virtual Alabama ADVANCE October seminar

In partnership with Alabama ADVANCE, the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will host virtual seminars to discuss the advancement of women in academic STEM. The first session will feature Mona Fouad, M.D., MPH, who will discuss Implicit and Explicit Bias in Science and Medicine virtually on Friday, Oct. 22, at 3 p.m.  

The topics for the series will cover the recruitment and retention of women and minorities, tenure in STEM fields, the balance of work and family, and many others. 

The virtual seminar series will be held monthly and will feature various speakers from UAB and surrounding ADVANCE institutions. 

Fouad is a professor of medicine and director of the Division of Preventive Medicine and serves as founding director of the UAB Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center. She is recognized nationally as a leader in health disparities research.
