University of Alabama at Birmingham has named Michelle Robinson, DMD, senior vice provost for Faculty Affairs, effective Feb. 1, 2023.
TheRobinson will be responsible for all faculty-related matters in this role, including support for the schools and colleges in recruitment, onboarding, development, promotion and tenure, and faculty relations. She will work with UAB’s Institutional Effectiveness and Analysis and with Academic Planning, a unit that is overseeing the university’s reaccreditation process with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools/Commission on Colleges. She will also be an important liaison between the UAB Office of the Provost and leadership in the schools and colleges in other academic areas.
Robinson most recently served as interim dean of the UAB School of Education from October 2020 to December 2022. Since 2005, Robinson has served in various leadership roles at UAB, many within the School of Dentistry as associate professor and associate dean for Health Information and Business Systems, Diversity and Equity officer, and interim dean from May 2018 to June 2019. In addition, she supported the Office of the Provost as its Faculty Relations fellow, providing faculty with academic leadership in key administrative areas.
“Dr. Robinson is a proven leader and collaborator with expansive institutional knowledge and extensive experience,” said Pam Benoit, Ph.D., provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. “She has a keen ability to understand and resolve faculty and academic issues.”
Robinson will lead an organizational structure composed of quality faculty capable of meeting the university’s strategic goals, including diversity, equity and inclusion. “I am honored to be chosen for this role,” Robinson said. “I look forward to working with the faculty and the academic units to achieve UAB’s strategic goals.”
