Department of Health Behavior in the School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, will serve as the chair-elect and later chair of the Ethics Section for the American Public Health Association.
Greg Pavela, Ph.D., assistant professor in theThe Ethics Section provides opportunities to connect and collaborate with colleagues, active professionals, retired professionals and students who are committed to advancing public health ethics in practice, teaching and research.
“As chair-elect and then chair, I hope to grow the Ethics Section as a stable and respected platform for its members and to further integrate the section with APHA activities,” Pavela said. “Through our collective expertise, the section provides guidance to our colleagues as they develop future APHA policy and introduce them to the thoughtful discussion of ethical issues via our programming, policy and task force activities and, importantly, demonstrate to our colleagues and the public a commitment to the reasoned consideration of complex public health issues.”
Pavela also hopes to increase student involvement.
“Student involvement is essential to the future of the APHA Ethics Section, and I hope to recruit future section leadership from the talented pool of students in the UAB School of Public Health,” Pavela said. “The section benefits from student participation and perspectives, while students benefit from involvement in an important national public health organization.”
He will serve as chair-elect for one year and then as chair of the section for two years.
