UAB Cancer Center scientists present pioneering research at ASCO national meeting

A team of physician-scientists from the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center presented some of the latest advances in patient care during the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) June 3-7, 2011, in Chicago.

UAB Cancer Center investigators, including senior scientist Andres Forero, M.D., a national leader in breast-cancer research and treatment, were authors on more than 20 abstracts accepted by ASCO for its published Meeting Proceedings. Among them is research on combining Tigatuzuamab, a UAB lab-produced molecule that sends a death signal to the cell, with chemotherapy in patients with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer; UAB is the lead institution for this clinical trial.

The UAB Cancer Center also presented abstracts on a range of research, from ovarian to head and neck cancer. Detailed information on all UAB abstracts is online at abstract.asco.org; search Alabama.
