Five investigators at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) were 2013 winners for best scientific papers honored by the Science Unbound Foundation. The awards, plaque and cash prizes are for works published in 2012 in the areas of obesity, nutrition and statistical science.
George Howard, Dr.P.H., professor in the UAB Department of Biostatistics, and Andres Azuero, Ph.D., assistant professor in the UAB School of Nursing, were awarded co-recipient best papers by a UAB-based investigator in the area of general statistics. Howard’s paper was published in Stroke and Azuero’s paper was published in Communications in Statistics – Simulation and Computation.
Degui Zhi, Ph.D., assistant professor in the section on Statistical Genetics in the Department of Biostatistics, was awarded best paper by a UAB-based investigator in the area of statistical genetics for his paper, published in Bioinformatics.
Stella Aslibekyan Ph.D., assistant professor in the UAB Department of Epidemiology, was jointly awarded best paper by UAB-based investigator in the area of obesity or nutrition for her paper, published in Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases.
Felix Kishinevsky, recent graduate from the UAB Department of Psychology, was awarded best paper by a UAB student in obesity-related research for his paper published in Appetite.
