The UAB School of Education will hold its second in a series of family literacy-focused professional development symposia, on Friday, March 11, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Junior League of Birmingham, 2212 20th Ave. South.
Lester L. Laminack is professor emeritus from the Department of Birth-Kindergarten, Elementary and Middle Grades Education at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Laminack is now a full-time writer and professional development consultant working with schools throughout the United States. He will highlight his latest book, “Writers Are Readers: Flipping Reading Instruction into Writing Opportunities,” which focuses on the important connection between writing instruction and reading comprehension strategies.
The symposium is geared toward pre-K through sixth-grade teachers, teacher educators, and undergraduate and graduate students. The cost is $75 and $25 for full-time students.
