UAB alumna elected as second female president for SECO International

Lynn Hammonds, O.D., a graduate of the UAB School of Optometry, will serve as president of a globally recognized optometry association.

smith seco streamLynn Hammonds, O.D.SECO International has elected Lynn Hammonds, O.D., an alumna of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry, as president of the globally recognized association for optometrists. 

Hammonds, who graduated from UAB in 1991, is the second woman to be elected president of SECO International. The first was elected in 1933. Hammonds is the third graduate of the UAB School of Optometry to be elected president of SECO International, joining Doug Clark, O.D., and C. Tommy Crooks, O.D.

After graduating from UAB, Hammonds completed a residency in geriatric and low-vision rehabilitative optometry at the Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center, which is one of the School of Optometry’s affiliated programs. She has practiced optometry at EyeCare Associates in Hoover since 1996 and has served as a clinical associate professor for the UAB School of Optometry. 

Hammonds will be the guest speaker for the UAB School of Optometry Class of 2017 convovation and hooding ceremony. 

SECO International is a not-for-profit association with members in the southeast United States, and its annual meetings attract more than 6,000 optometrists and ophthalmic professionals from around the world.
