University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Associate Professor Sheri Spaine Long, Ph.D., has been named editor of Foreign Language Annals, a journal for language education professionals. The appointment was announced recently by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

BIRMINGHAM, AL — University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Associate Professor Sheri Spaine Long, Ph.D., has been named editor of Foreign Language Annals, a journal for language education professionals. The appointment was announced recently by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

Long, who is chairwoman of the UAB Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, teaches Spanish and Spanish culture and literature. She is a member of the ACTFL board of directors.

Long was recently a member of the review board for “Talkin’ About Talk,” a national project to produce a series of weekly essays designed to stimulate interest in the study of languages and linguistics. The project was created as part of the 2005 Year of Languages. The essays were broadcast on public and university radio stations in 10 states nationwide.

The ACTFL has a membership of more than 8,000 teachers and administrators representing language teachers from K-12 through postgraduate levels.
