UAB student groups will hold a fund-raising lunch to benefit organizations aiding with tsunami relief efforts in south Asia. Collaborating groups have established the South Asia Tsunami Relief Fund (SATRF) to collect donations for charitable agencies at work in the disaster-torn region. The event is sold out, however, donations in support of the effort are welcome.

Area restaurants and caterers are pledging to donate food and to prepare more than 700 lunches for the event. The menu is expected to feature international cuisines, such as Indian, Chinese and Italian.

The group has identified at least two organizations to receive funds: AmeriCares (www.americares.org) and CARE (www.care.org).

An account also has been set up at AmSouth Bank, under the auspices of the Indian Cultural Association of Birmingham, to receive non-tax exempt donations. Checks made payable to SATRF may be deposited at any area AmSouth Bank or mailed to:
