BIRMINGHAM, AL — “Sowing the Seeds of Health,” a Latino health initiative sponsored jointly by the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and St. Vincent’s Hospital, is offering breast and cervical cancer screening events this month:

January 22, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 2061 Patton Chapel Road, Hoover.

January 29, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2 Xavier Circle, Mountain Brook.

The goal of the events is to educate local Latino women about the importance of having Pap smears and mammograms. Activities for men and children will be available at the events.

Speakers (in Spanish) will include Dr. Pablo Arnoletti, a surgical oncologist who is a native of Uruguay, and cancer survivors.
