University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Division of Molecular and Cellular Pathology Director Thomas L. Clemens, Ph.D., has been named Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Division of Molecular and Cellular Pathology Director Thomas L. Clemens, Ph.D., has been named Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research. The Editor-in-Chief post is effective Jan. 1 and lasts for five years.

Besides serving as division director, Clemens is a pathology professor and director of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute graduate fellowship program at UAB. He also holds a research position at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs hospital in Birmingham.

Clemens serves as the principal investigator for several federal-funded research projects currently ongoing at UAB and the VA hospital. He earned his doctoral degree in biochemistry from the University of London, England, in 1980.

The Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, published for the past 21 years, is the highest ranked bone journal and focuses on all areas of the biology and physiology of bone, hormones that regulate bone and the pathophysiology and treatment of disorders of bone and mineral metabolism including osteoporosis. It is published by the nonprofit American Society for Bone and Mineral Research based in Washington, D.C.
