The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Mock Trial team has won the National Mock Trial Tournament held this week at Hamline University Law School in St. Paul, Minn., by the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA). It is the first time the UAB mock trial team has won the top prize in a national championship. The traveling national championship trophy will move from Harvard University, last year’s tournament champion, to UAB Department of Justice Sciences’ Burr & Forman Mock Courtroom for the next 12 months.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Mock Trial team has won the National Mock Trial Tournament held this week at Hamline University Law School in St. Paul, Minn., by the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA). It is the first time the UAB mock trial team has won the top prize in a national championship. WHAT:

 

The UAB team placed first in their division with a record of seven wins and one loss. UAB team member Elizabeth Blair won the Best Attorney award, earning a perfect score on both the prosecution and defense side.

The UAB team members are: Elizabeth Blair, Brittlynn Hall, Jennifer Liwo, Nathan Mays, Heather White, Corinne Kearby, Jade Delisle and Delmekia Jackson. John W. Grimes, J.D., is director of the UAB Pre-Law Program.

The UAB Mock Trial team is administered through the UAB Department of Justice Sciences interdisciplinary Pre-Law Program. The team won the Southeast Regional Competition in 2004 and placed second nationally in 2002.
