Keith A. Jones, M.D., who recently joined the UAB faculty as chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, has been appointed to the Alfred Habeeb Chair in Anesthesiology. The action was taken at a recent meeting of the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Keith A. Jones, M.D., who recently joined the UAB faculty as chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, has been appointed to the Alfred Habeeb Chair in Anesthesiology. The action was taken at a recent meeting of the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees.

Jones, 45, an Anniston native, is a graduate of the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, and earned his medical degree from the UAB School of Medicine. He completed residency and postgraduate work at the Mayo Clinic, including a postdoctoral National Institutes of Health fellowship. He then joined the Mayo faculty, rising to the rank of professor and program director of Mayo’s Smooth Muscle Physiology Laboratory, before being recruited to UAB.

Jones, who has been principal or co-investigator on numerous federal research grants, is a highly published author of scientific articles. He is an editorial board member and former associate editor of the Journal of Applied Physiology and associate editor of Anesthesiology.

The Habeeb Chair was established in 1992 and named for a co-founder of the Alabama State Society of Anesthesiologists.
