The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics has named five scholarship winners for 2006-07.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics has named five scholarship winners for 2006-07.

“God at the Speed of Light” Scholars

Lauren Tidmore, a freshman biology major from Ider
Kelci Burckhardt, a sophomore chemistry major from Spanish Fort
Tarannum Jaleel, a junior physics major from Huntsville, AL.

The “God at the Speed of Light” Scholarships ($1,250 each) were endowed by T. Lee Baumann, M.D., in honor of his book, “God at the Speed of Light.” Recipients must be a student in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics with at least a 2.5 grade point average and demonstrate academic promise.

The Gladys Davies and George F. Brockman IV Endowed Scholarship

Rena L. Hammer, a sophomore chemistry major from Hattiesburg, Miss.

The Gladys Davies and George F. Brockman IV Endowed Scholarship is a $1,250 scholarship given to a deserving student in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics who demonstrates academic promise and has at least a 3.0 grade point average. The scholarship is named after the late George F. Brockman, a former faculty member in the school, and his late wife, Gladys.

Dean’s Leadership Scholarship

Stephanie J. Hirst, a senior biochemistry major from Killen

The School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Dean’s Leadership Scholarship is a $1,250 award given to a student in the school who demonstrates academic promise (GPA of at least 3.0) and exceptional leadership qualities.
