Robert G. Gaston, M.D., transplant nephrologist and professor of medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), has been elected to the board of directors of the American Society of Transplantation for 2006-2007.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Robert G. Gaston, M.D., transplant nephrologist and professor of medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), has been elected to the board of directors of the American Society of Transplantation for 2006-2007.

Gaston, medical director of kidney and pancreas transplantation at UAB, received his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine. He completed a renal transplantation fellowship at UAB and joined the faculty in 1990.

A prolific contributor to scientific literature, he is an editor of the 2005 book “Living Donor Kidney Transplantation: Current Practices, Emerging Trends and Evolving Challenges.”
