Dr. Maurice S. Albin, a noted anesthesiologist, has had an endowed professorship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) named in his honor. The post was made possible by a gift of $500,000 from the UAB Department of Anesthesiology to establish the professorship in his name.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Dr. Maurice S. Albin, a noted anesthesiologist, has had an endowed professorship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) named in his honor. The post was made possible by a gift of $500,000 from the UAB Department of Anesthesiology to establish the professorship in his name.

Albin is a pioneer in the subspecialty of neuroanesthesia, performing basic research and publishing seminal findings. He has held numerous positions of leadership in the field and has served as a consultant to the National Institutes of Health. In addition, he, has served as editor or consultant reviewer for several journals.

Before joining the UAB faculty in 2001, Albin served on the faculties of Case-Western Reserve University, the University of Michigan, the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Texas. At UAB he established a section on the history of anesthesia, the first of its kind in the U.S.
