The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Public Health is kicking off its National Public Health Week celebration by helping people prepare their pets for a disaster by getting them micro-chipped.

WHAT:

 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Public Health is kicking off its National Public Health Week celebration by helping people prepare their pets for a disaster by getting them micro-chipped. Local veterinarians will be on hand at to insert a microchip under the skin of dogs and cats so that in the event they are lost or displaced by a disaster, the pet can be scanned and find its way home. Cost is $20 per pet. The event is co-sponsored by the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.

Background:

 

The UAB School of Public Health’s observance of National Public Health Week 2007 is March 31 through April 6.During the weeklong observation, the UAB Public Health Student Association has events planned surrounding his year’s theme, “Preparedness and Public Health Threats: Addressing the Unique Needs of the Nation’s Vulnerable Populations.”
