BIRMINGHAM, AL — UAB Hospital has received the 2005-2006 Consumer Choice Award of the National Research Corp. (NRC) — one of only three hospitals in Alabama to attain the designation, and among just 207 of 3,000 hospitals, nationally.

The NRC award recognizes hospitals that receive highest marks among consumers for their quality and image, based on a nationwide survey of more than 200,000 households representing some 400,000 consumers.

NRC describes its annual survey as “the nation’s largest and most comprehensive study of its kind.”

UAB Hospital is the only Birmingham-area hospital to receive the award this year. Huntsville Hospital and Providence Hospital, Mobile, also are on the NRC’s award list.

“This award provides further validation that the public places high value and confidence in the quality of care provided at our hospital,” said Michael R. Waldrum, M.D., vice president of the UAB Health System and chief operating officer of UAB Hospital. “Every one of our hardworking employees who deliver on this promise each day should take tremendous pride in the achievement represented by this honor.”
