BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Associate Professor of Spanish Sheri Spaine Long, Ph.D., has been appointed to the College Board Advanced Placement Program and the Educational Policy Improvement Center (EPIC) for Best Practices in the Teaching of World Languages and Literatures.

Long has a multi-year appointment to the six-member Commission for Spanish Literature. Members will identify best practices for college courses that will then inform the redesign of Advanced Placement (AP) courses and exams in Spanish literature. The commission’s work will culminate in the first administration of redesigned AP exams in 2011.

Long is chairwoman of the UAB Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and is a recognized authority on the teaching of Spanish literature. Her research specialty is contemporary Spanish prose focused on Madrid.
