Newly admitted transient students from the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina who registered at UAB for the Fall 2005 semester will be subject to the existing UAB policies on charges for tuition and fees. Students should contact Gwen Stewart, (205) 934-9895, in the student accounting office to discuss payment of charges. As previously stated, registration for these students ended at the close of business September 6.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Newly admitted transient students from the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina who registered at UAB for the Fall 2005 semester will be subject to the existing UAB policies on charges for tuition and fees. Students should contact Gwen Stewart, (205) 934-9895, in the student accounting office to discuss payment of charges. As previously stated, registration for these students ended at the close of business September 6.

In addition:

  • Students enrolled as a result of Katrina will not be assessed late registration fees.

  • UAB will not require payment before the end of the term.

  • Students will not be charged late fees and/or reinstatement fees for non-payment during the fall term.

  • Financial obligations must be satisfied prior to registering for a subsequent term unless specifically authorized.

UAB will work to assist prospective or newly admitted students in obtaining financial aid or coordinating financial aid issues with the institutions where they previously were enrolled. These students should contact Jan May, director of financial aid, at jbmay@uab.edu or (205) 934-8132.

NOTE: Current UAB students from the affected areas who are unable to meet the payment terms of their student account also should contact the Financial Aid Office for assistance.
