Tickets are $6; $5 for UAB students and employees with I.D.; $4 for kids 12 and under, and advance purchase for groups of 20 or more. Advance purchase ensures a seat.
The concert will include new music and "best of" music from the choir's previous two CDs. More than 125 voices will take to the stage under the direction of Kevin P. Turner, along with the UAB Gospel Choir Band, dance team and mime team. For a sneak peek, go to www.myspace.com/uabgospelchoir or search on www.youtube.com.
The CD release party begins at 8:20 p.m., in the lower level of the UAB Hulsey Center, 950 13th St. S., next to the Alys Stephens Center. Access the venue at the corner of 13th Street S. and 10th Avenue S. CDs and DVDs will be available for purchase with checks, cash or credit cards. The choir's concept videos for the singles "After You've Prayed About It" and "Dominion" will play on the big screen in the Hulsey Center's Recital Hall. The CD/DVD can soon be purchased on campus and at www.cdbaby.com. The theme of the recording is a celebration of college life and American gospel music, Turner said. The project also has a tribute to the victims, friends and family of the Virginia Tech tragedy. The UAB Gospel Choir raised money to support the project.
"It will make you want to dance, clap your hands, think, reflect and hopefully bring a source of inspiration," Turner said. Turner, who also is co-producer, wrote most of the music. Choir keyboardist Clinton Green composed "Dominion." The CD is produced by Melvin "Jay" Terry Jr.
