The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Engineering’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has named senior J. Chris Jones its Undergraduate Student of the Year for 2002.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Engineering’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has named senior J. Chris Jones its Undergraduate Student of the Year for 2002.

Jones, 22, son of James F. Jones and Camilla Glover of Pinson, has earned Presidential Honors six times and Dean’s List honors twice. He is a recipient of a University Scholar Award and is part of the school’s Industrial Scholars program, through which he has an internship with Southern Company Services.

He is a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and Golden Key International Honor Society. He also is chairman of the UAB Student Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Jones has been a student instructor in the school’s electronics labs and he is a volunteer for the March of Dimes.
