University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) associate Professor Christopher C. Taylor, Ph.D., has been named interim chairman of the Department of Anthropology and Social Work.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) associate Professor Christopher C. Taylor, Ph.D., has been named interim chairman of the Department of Anthropology and Social Work.

Taylor’s appointment is effective July 1. He will step in for Professor Brian C. Hesse, Ph.D., who will become the director of Pennsylvania State University’s Jewish Studies Program.

Taylor is a socio-cultural anthropologist. His primary research interests are ethno-medical systems and symbolism, violence and culture, refugees and AIDS. He is the author of Sacrifice As Terror: The Rwandan Genocide of 1994 and Milk, Honey and Money: Changing Concepts in Rwandan Healing. Taylor has taught at UAB since 1991. Prior to coming to UAB, Taylor was a Mellon Instructor for the University of Chicago’s Social Sciences Collegiate Division from 1989 until 1991.
