David Shulman, 20, of Florence, and Barbara Agricola, 20, of Montgomery, were named Mr. and Ms. UAB for 2004 during the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) homecoming game festivities Saturday, November 13, at Legion Field.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — David Shulman, 20, of Florence, and Barbara Agricola, 20, of Montgomery, were named Mr. and Ms. UAB for 2004 during the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) homecoming game festivities Saturday, November 13, at Legion Field.

Shulman is a junior majoring in biology. He is president of the Undergraduate Student Government Association, a student representative with the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees and a member of the UAB Ambassadors. He also has been a volunteer for organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Pets Are Worth Saving (PAWS). Shulman is the son of Dr. Mark Shulman and Pam Vines.

Agricola is a junior majoring in political science. She is a student in the UAB Honors Program. She also is active on campus as a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, the Trailblazers and the College Republicans. In addition to her campus activities, she has been a volunteer with the UAB Center for Palliative Care and the Into the Streets service organization. She is the daughter of Al and Bash [cq] Agricola.

The winners of the Mr. and Ms. UAB competition will each receive a $1,500 scholarship from the UAB National Alumni Society. They will work closely with the Alumni Society’s board of directors as student representatives to raise awareness of the organization’s Student Alumni Society, scholarship programs and events. Other participants were:

  • Kassie Price, 20, of Prattville, junior, Spanish major

  • Drew Wright, 20, of Mountain Brook, senior, biology major
