WHAT:

Secretary of State Colin Powell has submitted his resignation, according to news reports. University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) visiting assistant professor of international relations Carlos Yordan, Ph.D., is available for comment and analysis until 1 p.m. today, November 15. He will be available for interviews tomorrow, November 16.

WHO:

Yordan teaches in the UAB Department of Government. He has published and presented many studies in the field of international relations. His research focuses on reconstruction efforts in Iraq and international peacemaking and conflict resolution. Currently, he is researching the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq. Yordan earned his bachelor’s degree in international studies and his master’s degree in international peace and conflict resolution from American University in 1996 and 1998 respectively. He earned his doctorate in international relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2004. He is a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
