The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is offering a new master’s degree program in communication management targeted at professionals in the fields of public relations and print and broadcast journalism.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is offering a new master’s degree program in communication management targeted at professionals in the fields of public relations and print and broadcast journalism.

The program, to be offered by the UAB Department of Communication Studies, was approved by the University of Alabama Board of Trustees today.

Through the new degree program, students can explore real world applications in the fields of public relations and print and electronic journalism, such as running a public relations office, directing a newscast or editing a newspaper or magazine. Classes will be held primarily or exclusively at night and weekends to the benefit working students. The program will award students with a master’s degree in communication management. It will launch officially in the fall.

Students in the program will need to complete 11 courses, including classes in source credibility, message construction, analysis of communication audiences and qualitative communication research. The range of courses will allow students to customize their studies according to their career goals.
