University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) senior Maria Hopkins, 22, of Homewood, has received a Martha G. Wade Fellowship from the Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Honor Society for 2003-2004.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) senior Maria Hopkins, 22, of Homewood, has received a Martha G. Wade Fellowship from the Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Honor Society for 2003-2004.

Hopkins received one of the 23 fellowships awarded annually by Alpha Lamda Delta for graduate study. She competed in a field of 160 applicants across the country. She will receive a $5,000 stipend.

Hopkins, a native of Sweden, is majoring in psychology. She is the daughter of Leif and Birgitta Rundquist of Stockholm, Sweden.

Alpha Lamda Delta is a national honor society that recognizes academic excellence displayed by students during their first academic year at college. Members may apply for the fellowships during their senior year or after receiving their bachelor’s degree.
