University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Professor of History Carolyn A. Conley, Ph.D., has received the Roger McHugh Award for Outstanding Learned Essay in Irish Studies for her article “Homicide in Late Victorian Ireland and Scotland.”

BIRMINGHAM, AL — University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Professor of History Carolyn A. Conley, Ph.D., has received the Roger McHugh Award for Outstanding Learned Essay in Irish Studies for her article “Homicide in Late Victorian Ireland and Scotland.”

The Roger McHugh Award is presented by the New Hibernia Review, a multidisciplinary journal of Irish studies. The award comes with a $300 cash prize.

Professor Conley is a British historian specializing in 19th century social history. She is the author of two books, Unwritten Law: Criminal Justice in Victorian Kent and Melancholy Accidents: The Meaning of Violence in Post-Famine Ireland.
