BIRMINGHAM, AL — As the Birmingham mayoral race continues, the following UAB professors are available for comment and analysis.

Campaign Communications

Larry Powell, Ph.D., is a pollster and an expert on the methods politicians use to communicate with the public. He is co-author of Political Campaign Communications: Inside and Out (2002) which he co-authored with Joseph Cowart. Powell has conducted numerous statewide opinion polls. In addition, he has worked as a press secretary, speechwriter and communications consultant for dozens of political candidates. Powell is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies.

 

Birmingham’s Mayoral Race/City Politics

Steven Haeberle, Ph.D., has written numerous books, book chapters and journal articles examining campaigns, elections and party politics. He has taught classes on politics and the media, state and local government and politics, contemporary political issues and American political parties and elections. Haeberle is an associate professor in the Department of Government.
