BIRMINGHAM, AL — Australian installation artist Elvis Richardson is seeking donations of photographic slides for her ongoing project, “Welcome to Slide Show Land.”

Richardson, who has been collecting and cataloguing slides since 2001, will exhibit her works at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Visual Arts Gallery July 30 through September 10. The exhibition features collections of slides — found, donated or purchased — from the 1940s to the 1990s. The show has been exhibited in Australia, New Zealand and New York. As part of the project, she invites members of the public to donate their slides to her archive. The slides, which will not be shown at UAB, will be catalogued and become part of future exhibits.

“Usually, I purchase my slides on eBay,” Richardson said. “But because of distance and the nature of the project, I have asked Brett Levine, curator and director of the UAB Visual Arts Gallery, to see if it might be possible to have slides delivered personally to the Gallery.” Donated slides will be displayed, in their packaging, on a table in the gallery during the exhibition.

To make a donation, please deliver slides to the UAB Visual Arts Gallery, 900 13th Street South, Birmingham. For further details please call Levine at the Gallery at (205) 934-0815.
