Purushotham V. Bangalore, Ph.D., has joined the faculty of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics as an assistant professor in the department of computer and information sciences.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Purushotham V. Bangalore, Ph.D., has joined the faculty of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics as an assistant professor in the department of computer and information sciences.

Bangalore comes to UAB from Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi, where he spent the last 10 years as a researcher in the university’s Engineering Research Center. He also taught classes and was a guest lecturer in the department of computer science. His research interests include scientific, grid and high performance computing and bioinformatics.

“I am extremely pleased to be part of the UAB School Natural Sciences and Mathematics faculty,” Bangalore said. “The department of computer and information sciences has experienced tremendous growth and represents an excellent platform from which to both teach and research. I look forward to working with students, faculty and administration to further the growth of grid computing in the school and in the university.”

“Puri’s research experience and background in high performance and grid computing is an asset to UAB,” said Anthony Skjellum, Ph.D., chair of the department of computer and information sciences. “He brings a wealth of knowledge to the table that will help educate our students and will be an asset to not only our high performance and grid computing initiatives, but also will be helpful to our bioinformatics research.”

Bangalore earned his doctorate in computational engineering and master’s in computer science from Mississippi State University and earned his bachelor’s in computer science and engineering from Bangalore University in Bangalore, India.
