Franscisco Carriscondo, Ph.D., noted for his achievements in Spanish linguistics and poetry, will be the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Jemison Visiting Professor for spring 2004.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Franscisco Carriscondo, Ph.D., noted for his achievements in Spanish linguistics and poetry, will be the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Jemison Visiting Professor for spring 2004. Carriscondo’s appointment will be in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.

Carriscondo is a professor of Spanish linguistics at the University of Málaga, Spain. While at UAB, he will teach an advanced Spanish course in the Department of Foreign Languages.

He also will present a poetry reading and a lecture. Both events will be in Spanish. The poetry reading, “Poetry, Creation and Analysis,” will be held 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, in the Humanities Building, Room 312, 900 13th Street South. The lecture, “Spanish Lexicon in the Americas,” is scheduled for 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, in the Humanities Building, Room 312, 900 13th Street South. Both events are free and open to the public.

Carriscondo is an expert on the Spanish lexicon. He is co-author of the Diccionario de Mexicanismos published by the Instituto Tecnólogico of México. He also has published several books of poetry.
