The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Business will honor two of its outstanding alumni and two of its long-time supporters at its third annual Outstanding Alumni Awards Luncheon, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, May 14, at the B&A Warehouse in Birmingham.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Business will honor two of its outstanding alumni and two of its long-time supporters at its third annual Outstanding Alumni Awards Luncheon, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, May 14, at the B&A Warehouse in Birmingham.

The two alumni honorees, accomplished in their respective fields, are Chad Hagwood, vice president and manager of the Alabama office of GMAC Commercial Mortgage (GMACCM) and John Coffey, president of Perry Supply Inc. in Birmingham.

Hagwood earned his bachelor's degree in finance, with concentrations in real estate finance and investment/institutional finance, from the UAB School of Business. He will be an advisory board member for the department of finance beginning in August. At GMACCM, he is actively involved in the origination of commercial real estate debt, equity and mezzanine financing for commercial real estate properties. Hagwood is a 2002 recipient of the Birmingham Business Journal's "Top 40 Under 40" award, recognizing young business leaders in the Birmingham area.

Coffey, president of Perry Supply Inc. since 2001, previously enjoyed a successful career in the mining industry, including 18 years with Atlantic Richfield Coal Co. Most recently, Coffey oversaw Perry Supply's expansion into overseas markets through development of international freight forwarding capabilities. As a result, Perry Supply has become one of Birmingham's fastest growing companies. Coffee earned his M.B.A. from the UAB School of Business in 2001. He is a member of the American Society of Mining Engineers, Strathmore's Business Who's Who, Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society, and Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society. Coffee also will be an advisory board member for the department of finance at UAB beginning in August.

The two long-time supporters being honored are Charles Collat, chairman of Birmingham-based Mayer Electric Supply, and Julian Banton, former chairman and CEO of SouthTrust Bank.

Collat established the Ben S. Weil Chair of Industrial Distribution at UAB and is a member of both the board of advisors for the industrial distribution program and the UAB School of Business Advisory Board. He also was past president of the President's Council at UAB.

Banton co-chaired the $350 million capital campaign for UAB, facilitated a $1.5 million gift from SouthTrust to the UAB School of Business and is a member of the UAB School of Business Advisory Board.
