BIRMINGHAM, AL — UAB Hospital, the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital, The Kirklin Clinic and the School of Nursing at UAB will celebrate Nurses Week, May 3-10. (National Nurses Week will be observed May 6-12, culminating on Florence Nightingale’s birthday.) The theme of this year’s event is “Nurses: Lifting Spirits, Touching Lives.” In addition to the following activities, UAB’s tribute to nurses will include Nurses’ Week gifts, an ice cream party, appreciation breakfasts and a pampering fair.

A canned food drive benefiting local charities will provide the building blocks for creative “can-structions.” Prizes will be given for most cans collected and most creative “can-struction.”

Hosted by the UAB Center for Nursing Research and Oasis, A Women's Counseling Center. Ann R. Peden, D.S.N., professor of nursing at the College of Nursing at the University of Kentucky, will present "Not Just the Blues: The Nursing Perspective and the Community Response to Depression in Young Women." The luncheon is open to the public. The cost is $25 per person until May 3 or $30 per person after May 3. Continuing education credits available for nurses, social workers and counselors.
