| Posted on April 28, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. BIRMINGHAM, AL — The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) will honor the recipients of the 14th annual President’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching at the Faculty Awards Convocation 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 30, in the Alys Stephens Center Sirote Theatre. The President’s Award for Excellence in teaching recognizes full-time regular faculty who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments in teaching. One recipient is chosen from each school and the Joint Health Sciences. These prestigious awards include a cash prize and a Steuben crystal apple with engraved base. Students, faculty and alumni make the nominations. The 2004 recipients are: Professor Gypsy Abbott, Education; Professor Kathleen Brown, Nursing; Assistant Professor Christopher Coffey, Public Health; Associate Professor Sarah Culver, Business; Associate Professor Catherine Danielou, Arts & Humanities; Associate Professor Robin Griffin, Engineering; Associate Professor Steven Haeberle, Social & Behavioral Sciences; Assistant Professor Craig Hoesley, Medicine; Professor William Lacefield, Dentistry; Assistant Professor Jacqueline Nikles, Natural Sciences & Mathematics; Associate Professor Midge Noel Ray, Health Related Professions; Associate Professor Peter Smith, Joint Health Sciences; and Assistant Professor Tammy Pifer Than, Optometry.
