Dr. Paul W. Sanders, professor of medicine in the division of nephrology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), has been chosen to serve as a member of the Pathobiology of Kidney Disease Study Section of the National Institutes of Health’s Center for Scientific Review.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Dr. Paul W. Sanders, professor of medicine in the division of nephrology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), has been chosen to serve as a member of the Pathobiology of Kidney Disease Study Section of the National Institutes of Health’s Center for Scientific Review.

Sanders, who also is chief of nephrology at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Birmingham, holds positions with several UAB centers, including the Nephrology Research and Training Center, Multipurpose Arthritis Center, Cell Adhesion and Matrix Center and the Comprehensive Cancer Center.

A graduate of the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, he completed internship and residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in nephrology, all at UAB. He is principal investigator on a major NIH grant studying the mechanisms of salt-sensitive hypertension and hypertensive kidney disease.
