The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures will team up with the Asociación Hispánica de Humanidades to co-sponsor an International Congress, which will take place in Madrid, Spain, July 9-12.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures will team up with the Asociación Hispánica de Humanidades to co-sponsor an International Congress, which will take place in Madrid, Spain, July 9-12.

The conference theme is “Madrid in Spanish, Latin America and World Literature.” Participants will examine the role of Madrid in cinema, history, economics, literature and other aspects of the humanities.

Sheri Spaine Long, Ph.D., chairwoman of the UAB Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and co-director of the International Congress, will be a presenter. Other UAB presenters will include Carlos Orihuela, Ph.D., and Lourdes Sánchez -López, Ph.D. UAB Study Abroad Director, Josh Carter, will organize sessions on Study Abroad in Madrid. UAB graduate student Victoria Garrett and undergraduate student and McNair Scholar Marina Reid also will participate.
