WHAT:

Two-dimensional cutouts of human icons displaying messages about health disparities will lead UAB’s efforts next week to raise community awareness about troubling trends in public health. More than 75 “little men” will be posted across campus calling attention to state and national health disparities, such as lack of physicians in rural areas, lack of diversity among health care providers, low health literacy and lack of insurance. The project, sponsored by UAB’s Public Health Student Association, is one of several activities planned for this year’s National Public Health Week. The theme of the week is “Eliminating Health Disparities: Communities Moving From Statistics to Solutions.”

WHEN:

April 5-11, 2004
(National Public Health Week)

WHERE:

Icons will be posted along University Boulevard between Lister Hill Library and Campbell Hall (1300 to 1700 blocks); in the UAB Mini Park; in the quad behind the Humanities Building (900 13th Street South); and in front of Bartow Arena (617 13th Street South).
