More than 60 students from the UAB School of Engineering will have their skateboard designs demonstrated and evaluated by expert skateboard riders from Birmingham retailer Ride Skateboards. The students have designed the skateboards as part of their Introduction to Engineering class.

WHAT:

 

More than 60 students from the UAB School of Engineering will have their skateboard designs demonstrated and evaluated by expert skateboard riders from Birmingham retailer Ride Skateboards. The students have designed the skateboards as part of their Introduction to Engineering class.

 

 

 

BACKGROUND:

 

Groups of four students have designed a skateboard deck using composite materials. This is essentially a "high-tech" skateboard, constructed using materials and techniques normally associated with the aerospace industry. They must meet certain design goals and the students also are evaluated on the cost of their design as well as their engineering decisions.
