Seven students and a professor from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Theatre are working this summer at the nationally renowned Utah Shakespearean Festival.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Seven students and a professor from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Theatre are working this summer at the nationally renowned Utah Shakespearean Festival. The students are hired performers who auditioned and were selected for roles in The Greenshow, an Elizabethan festival, and The Royal Feaste, a festival set in Robin Hood’s Sherwood Forest. Each is performed 10 times a week.

The students performing in The Greenshow and The Royal Feaste are Jessica Clark of Irondale, Jamie Cottle of Trussville, Adam Fox of Huntsville, Jon Hennington of Birmingham, Jared Rausch of Columbiana and Lee Turner of Trussville. UAB student Michael Rawlins of Birmingham is a member of the stage crew at the festival.

Ron Hubbard, an associate professor of theatre at UAB, is the director of The Greenshow and The Royal Feaste at Utah Shakespearean Festival. At UAB, Hubbard most recently directed “La Boheme.” Hubbard’s directorial work this past season included “Misery” at the Hippodrome State Theatre in Florida, “Young King Arthur” at the Birmingham Children’s Theatre and an episode for the National Geographic Channel. Hubbard has also worked for the Georgia Shakespearean Festival and served as assistant director/acting coach for the Shakespeare Festival of Dallas. Hubbard is a member of Actors’ Equity Association and a former representative for the United Stuntman’s Association.

Jessica Clark is a sophomore theatre major at UAB and has appeared in over 50 productions.

Jamie Cottle is a recent graduate of UAB. His most recent credits include playing the role of John Wilkes Booth in Theatre UAB’s productions of “Assassins” and as Lord Godalming in “The Passion of Dracula.” Clark and Cottle are making their Utah Shakespeare Festival debut this season.

Adam Fox has performed as Truffaldino in UAB Theatre’s “The Servant of Two Masters.” He appeared as Albert Einstein in the short UAB film “E=MC3,” and is a member of the improvisational comedy troupe Torrential Downplay. As a writer, he co-wrote the comedy “Legitimate Theatre” as well as the story and lyrics for “Pantalone's Daughter.”

Jon Hennington is returning to the Utah Shakespearean Festival for his second season. Last season, he was seen as Sir John Falstaff in The Royal Feaste. Hennington is an officer in the Psi Beta cast of Alpha Psi Omega at UAB. Recent roles include Dr. Lombardi in “The Servant of Two Masters,” Sam Byck in “Assassins” and Lady Bracknell in “The Importance of Being Earnest.”

Jared Rausch has performed the starring roles of Dracula in “The Passion of Dracula” and John Worthing in “The Importance of Being Earnest.” He portrayed Pantalone in “The Servant of Two Masters,” Robin Hood in “The Sherwood Chronicles,” Bloody Five in “A Man’s a Man,” and Bill Lewis in “Hot L Baltimore.” He has also been the company manager and a performer in UAB’s Shakespeare Ensemble.

Lee Turner appeared most recently in an Theatre UAB’s adapted version of “RUR” as Henry Domin and in “Hay Fever” as Sandy Tyrell. Turner also appeared in Theatre UAB’s “A Man's a Man” as Galy Gay and portrayed Tim Allgood in a production of “Noises Off” with the 13th Street Ensemble, UAB’s professional theatre company.
