BIRMINGHAM, AL — UAB Hospital has received a 2001 Consumer Choice Award from the National Research Corporation. UAB Hospital is the only hospital in Birmingham to be recognized.
One hundred and twenty-two winning hospitals from 106 communities across the nation were announced in this week's issue of Modern Healthcare magazine.
Winning hospitals are selected from the results of a survey of more than 150,000 households nationwide. Consumers in those households were asked to rate their local hospital using criteria that included hospital quality, physician accessibility, preventative health behaviors, and overall medical care.
"Consumers in the Birmingham area clearly recognize UAB Hospital as the leader in providing their families with the highest quality healthcare. We hold that trust in high regard," says Martin Nowak, executive director of UAB Hospital.
The recognition places UAB Hospital alongside such institutions as Johns Hopkins University Hospital, Duke University Medical Center, Yale-New Haven Hospital, the University of Michigan Health System, and the Mayo Clinic.
The National Research Corporation specializes in healthcare performance measurement. The Consumer Choice Awards have been awarded for six years.
