BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -The UAB Summer Band will present a free Fourth of July concert at 8 p.m. Friday, July 4, on the lawn outside Bartow Arena, 617 13th St. S. Admission is free. For information call the UAB Department of Music at 205-934-7376.

The concert will feature patriotic, pops and traditional band music. An audience sing-a-long medley will include "America the Beautiful," "You're a Grand Old Flag" and "God Bless the U.S.A." All ages are welcome for a relaxing hour of free, family-friendly music, ending with a finale of fireworks from atop Red Mountain. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnics are encouraged.

The UAB Summer Band also will sell chances to step in as guest conductor for the band on "Stars and Stripes Forever." Chances are $2 each or $5 for three chances and will be available at the event. The UAB Summer Band is a community band with 75 members directed by Sue Samuels.
