BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Theodore Haddin Humanities Forum for fall 2008 will open with a discussion by UAB philosopher and Assistant Professor Jacqueline Sullivan, Ph.D., on "The Unity of the Neurosciences From a Contemporary Philosophical Perspective." The discussion will take place 11:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, in the Mervyn H. Sterne Library, Director's Conference Room, First Floor, 917 13th St. S.

The UAB Haddin Humanities Forum, founded by Frederick W. Conner in 1973, provides an informal setting for dialogue between students, faculty and the public. Sullivan teaches in the UAB Department of Philosophy. Her research interests include the philosophy of the mind as well as the philosophy of science and neuroscience.

In November the Haddin Humanities Forum will present a discussion by UAB Associate Professor Karla Koskinen, M.F.A., from the UAB Department of Theatre, on "Directing Howard Barker's ‘Scenes From an Execution.'" The discussion will be held at 11:45 a.m., Friday, Nov. 14, in the Mervyn H. Sterne Library, Henley Room, 917 13th St. S.

Koskinen will discuss directing "Scenes From an Execution," which will be presented by UAB Theatre 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14-15, Nov.19-22 and 2 p.m. Nov. 23, in the Alys Stephens Center's Odess Theatre, 1200 10th Ave. S.

Koskinen teaches directing and acting and directs productions for UAB. She is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and has directed professionally for more than 25 years.
