BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Music presents "36 Strings: An Evening with Six Guitars," at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the UAB Mary Culp Hulsey Recital Hall, 950 13th St. S. Admission is free. Call 205-934-7376 for details.

Guitarists Brian Lutterbie, Kerry Burgess, Carlos Pino, Stan Putnam, Joel Smith and Steve Wingo will present an evening of guitar music. Five of the classical guitarists will perform solo pieces, then all six will join together to perform "Machinations," an original composition by Lutterbie.

"'Machinations' was originally composed for the UAB Guitar Ensemble in 2004 for 10 guitars," Lutterbie said. "For this show, we've reduced it to six without dropping a note."
