The annual University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Homecoming Gurney Derby will be held tomorrow on the campus.

The annual University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Homecoming Gurney Derby will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, October 15 on the campus at noon. The starting gate is in front of the Humanities Building, 900 13th St. S.

 

In one of UAB's oldest traditions, teams consisting of students and staff members will race hospital gurneys on 13th Street South. The teams will consist of two males and two females. Team members will be dressed in colorful costumes. Each gurney will have a nonliving "passenger" such as a mannequin or stuffed animal.

The race will be run in timed heats. The winners of each heat will compete in the final race. Teams will be awarded First Place, Best Dressed Team, Best Dressed Passenger and the Dead Last Award.

 

The UAB National Alumni Society and UAB Intramural Sports are sponsors for the event.

The UAB Blazers will take on the Marshall Thundering Herd at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Legion Field.
