Three University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) employees will have their artwork featured on the HGTV network show “That’s Clever!” in January.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Three University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) employees will have their artwork featured on the HGTV network show "That's Clever!" in January.

Justin Roth, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow in Human Gene Therapy at UAB, will be featured on HGTV at 7 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8. Roth creates pieces of art with concrete sculpting. In his episode, Roth will demonstrate how to sculpt a fake fossil in clay, make a mold of the fossil and then cast it in concrete. Kristen Farmer Hall, MPH, associate director for palliative care development at UAB, will be featured on HGTV at 7 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23. Hall is a fused-glass artist. She started out in glass mosaics eight years ago and now concentrates on fused glass. She will demonstrate how to create a fused glass mosaic table. "My work is inspired by modern art. It's very clean and contemporary. I try and concentrate on creating work that sparks interest in conversation," Hall said. See her work at www.sparkstudio.blogspot.com.

Charles Buchanan, editor for UAB Periodicals, will be featured on HGTV at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27. Buchanan will demonstrate block printing. Buchanan reinterprets photos of the city, state and region, transforming them into bold graphic designs. To date he has carved more than 120 images, including prints of classic advertising, roadside Americana and the faded painted wall signs seen in downtown Birmingham. See his work at www.cbuchanan.net.
