June 15-19  Camp Shakespeare Extreme in Birmingham, presented by the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and UAB Theatre, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., for students in grades 7-12, at UAB's Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. S., Birmingham. Associate Professor Dennis McLernon, M.F.A, of the UAB Department of Theatre, will lead this intensive camp for students who are prepared to dig deeper into Shakespeare's world and his text, explore complex characters and discover new levels of theatrical expression. June 14-20  UAB Summer Music Camp, for middle and high school students in grades 6-12, open to commuting or residential campers on the UAB campus. Fee is $425 for resident campers and $300 for commuter campers. A $25 discount is offered for early registration by April 27; final deadline for registration is May 18. June 22-26  UAB Percussion Camp, a week-long series of concerts, clinics, master classes and ensemble rehearsals for rising 7th-12th grade students. Offerings include percussion ensemble, steel band, drum line, timpani, drum set, electronic percussion and a beginner's track. July 4  UAB Summer Band Fourth of July Concert, 7:30 p.m., on the lawn in front of Bartow Arena, 617 13th St. S., Birmingham. Concert features patriotic, pops and traditional band music. All ages are welcome for a relaxing hour of free, family-friendly music. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnics are encouraged. Admission is free. After the concert, the band and others will lead the way to the UAB Campus Green, on University Boulevard between 14th and 16th Streets South, to watch the fireworks launched from atop Red Mountain. July 27  Gospel Choir Summer Concert, 7 p.m., Alys Stephens Center's Jemison Concert Hall, 1200 10th Ave. S. Directed by Kevin P. Turner, D.D. UAB Gospel Choir CDs and DVDs will be available for purchase. Tickets are available in advance or at the door, $5 general admission, $3 UAB employees and students with valid ID, $3 for children 12 years and under. May 8-June 5  Annie Butrus: "Peach Tree Trail," featuring several diptychs installed together as a simulated trail. Each diptych represents an individual peach farmer's orchard in Chilton County.
