BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 41st Annual Southeast Regional American Chemical Society Undergraduate Research Conference is being hosted by the UAB Department of Chemistry April 9-10. More than 40 undergraduate chemistry students from 12 Southeastern universities are attending the two-day event that begins with a dinner and keynote address April 9 and ends with a day-long series of undergraduate research presentations April 10.

The conference will be held at the Blazer Hall Residential Life Center, located on the corner of 9th Avenue and 16th Street South, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The research conference offers undergraduate research students a unique opportunity to share their findings with other faculty and students from around the Southeast, preparing them for what will become regular practice in the future as the participants transition to graduate and doctoral studies. The conference offers a chance for students to discuss research and exchange ideas in a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. Students from Florida State, Mississippi State, Georgia Southern and Samford universities among others will be participating.

The Department of Chemistry is located within the College of Arts and Sciences in the heart of the UAB campus. The department's academic and research excellence provides one of the strongest chemistry programs in the Southeast, having an excellent undergraduate and graduate academic reputation with ACS-certified undergraduates scoring well above the national average and producing chemistry majors who are highly competitive for medical, dental and graduate school programs throughout the United States.
