BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - High school students can learn what it is really like to be a crime scene investigator at "Camp CSI Birmingham" sponsored by the UAB Department of Justice Sciences. Camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 22-26 in the UAB Forensic Science Teaching Laboratory, Room 306, 1201 University Blvd.

The camp, named after the popular television show "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," offers students hands-on training in collecting evidence, dusting for fingerprints, analyzing DNA, interpreting DNA profiles and examining insects from UAB forensic science professors. It is in its second year.

Admission is open to students in grades 10-12. The cost is $199 per student plus a $50 nonrefundable registration fee. Registration deadline is June 12; space is limited.

UAB's Department of Justice Sciences offers a bachelor's and a master's degree in criminal justice. The program also offers a master's in forensic science, a certificate in computer forensics, an undergraduate minor in forensic psychology and a legal affairs minor.
